Collaboration with trust

Svenheim does not deal with the acquisition, purchase, and recycling of illegally harvested timber, which involves collecting when legal or civil rights, environmental values are in danger. As well as harvesting plantations or non-forest land, and where genetically modified trees are grown. To facilitate a safe environment for sustainable business, Svenheim relies on tested and recognised certificates and rules.

Preventing dangerous substances

ROHS requires certain hazardous substances to be substituted by safer alternatives. This way we prevent heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium and flame retardants from being used in the production.

Credibility from the very beginning

Credible products are sold with an FSC® claim, as they originate from well-managed, controlled sources, and reclaimed materials. FSC’s primary goal is to ensure friendly forest management as it provides biodiversity, transparency in the society and economic advantage. Only then it becomes FSC labelled. Also, the certification facilitates the transparent flow of goods made from such materials through the material chain.

Transparency and the Reach regulation

After the materials are carefully selected, the work, involving many different parties, begins. To ensure the furniture and its component parts are manufactured responsibly in a social manner, Möbelfakta’s requirement specification is invoked. These criteria consist of Human rights, good working conditions, environment, and a transparent supply chain. The REACH Regulation applies to all substances used in industrial processes and daily lives, such as cleaning products, paints, and products such as clothing, furniture, and electrical appliances. The regulation therefore affects most EU companies. Chemical accounting is also performed under the legal acts in force in Lithuania.

Determining the risks

Sustainable product’s every stage come with transparency. Before starting a contract, such aspects as the country’s risk classification, its corruption index, risk associated with production, and child labour rating are analysed. It’s essential to mention numerous evaluation done: materials’ structure, the origin of wood, annual suppliers audit data, etc. Finally, safety and durability testing are conducted.

A crucial assessment

For a specific product, we generate an environmental product declaration (EPD). This gives information about the life-cycle environmental impact of products: transportation to the end-user, product recycling, operating costs. EPD eventually converted all measures into a single relative unit to assess the product’s ecological footprint.

iWay standards

As a Green Dot Norway member, Svenheim takes responsibility for all packaging types through return systems, approved by the Norwegian Environment Agency. As we sell particles to IKEA, the requirements of IWAY must be met, even if we are only micro suppliers.  IWAY requirements work strictly against child labour, forced and bonded labour, business ethics, severe environmental pollution, and severe health or safety hazards.  IWAY stands for ethical working hours, wages, workers accident insurance and their accommodation.

ISO standards and furniture testing

Svenheim is certified with ISO 9001 Quality Management System Standard and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Standard. Therefore, all standard furniture is tested according to Mobelfakta requirements (safety, quality, resistance testing). Furniture testing is required by Nordic Swan and Mobelfakta standards.
